01Who you're dealing with
Magic City Song Club (“MCSC”, “the club”, “we”) is a private membership community for songwriters, run by members of Magic City Hippies. It lives at magiccitysongclub.com, in a private Discord server, and in a members-only player we call the Deck.
These terms are the agreement between you and MCSC. By joining, paying, uploading, or posting, you're agreeing to them. If you don't agree, don't join — and if you're already in, you can cancel any time.
Questions about anything here go to hello@magiccitysongclub.com. A person reads that.
02Membership and billing
Membership is $20 per month, and your first 30 days are free. Payments are handled by Whop, our payment processor and merchant of record. We never see or store your card details.
The free month
Your trial starts the day you join. If you cancel before it ends, you're charged nothing. If you don't cancel, the first $20 is charged on the day your trial ends, and monthly after that until you cancel.
Cancelling
Cancel any time from Manage billing in your Deck profile, or in Whop directly. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for — you keep access until then, and you won't be charged again.
Refunds
We don't bill for partial months, and we don't automatically refund months already used. That said: if you were charged by accident, charged after cancelling, or something on our end was broken for a meaningful stretch, email us and we'll make it right. We'd rather refund you than have you resent us.
Price changes
If the price ever changes, existing members get at least 30 days' notice by email before it applies to them, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, we'll keep your access on for a short grace period while you fix your card. If it stays unpaid, the membership ends and access closes.
03Your music stays yours
To actually run the club, we need narrow permission to handle your files: you grant MCSC a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to store, encode, and stream what you upload to other members inside the club only, for as long as you keep it posted.
That licence exists so the Deck can convert your file for playback and show it to the room. It does not let us:
- release, distribute, or sell your music;
- use it in advertising, social posts, or promotion of the club;
- sub-licence it to anyone else;
- let non-members hear it.
If we ever want to use your song for anything public — a playlist, a video, a compilation — we'll ask first, in writing, and you're free to say no. Silence isn't a yes.
Taking it down
Delete a track and we remove it from the Deck and delete the audio from our servers. Copies other members made without permission are outside our control, which is why the rule below exists.
Only upload what's yours
Don't upload anything you don't have the rights to: uncleared samples, someone else's stems, tracks a label or co-writer hasn't agreed you can share. If a dispute lands on us because of something you uploaded, that's on you.
04What happens in the room
Specifically, you agree not to download, screen-record, re-upload, leak, or repost any audio, lyrics, or work-in-progress belonging to another member or to Magic City Hippies, anywhere outside the club. No exceptions for “just my friend” or “just my story”.
Breaking this ends your membership immediately, without refund, and leaves whatever legal options the owner has intact. It's the one rule the whole club depends on.
How to be here
- Notes, not verdicts. Critique the song, not the person.
- No harassment, hate, or threats. Ever, to anyone.
- No selling. No spam, no cold pitches, no DMs hustling members.
- Credit people. If someone played on it or fixed the hook, say so.
- No impersonation of hosts, members, or the club.
We can remove posts and end memberships that break these rules. For serious stuff — leaking, harassment, anything illegal — we'll do it immediately and without a refund.
05Collaborations and splits
Members collaborate here, and that's the point. But MCSC is not a party to your collaborations. We don't take a cut, we don't own the result, and we don't arbitrate.
If you write with someone you met here, agree the splits in writing, before you release anything. Who wrote what, who owns the master, who controls licensing. A message thread counts. Nothing sours a room faster than an unrecorded handshake.
Anything you buy directly from a host — a verse, a lesson, a production session — is a separate agreement between you and that person, with its own terms agreed up front.
06Your account
You need a working email to be a member, and you're responsible for what happens under your account. One person per account — don't share logins, and don't sell or lend your access. That's an immediate end to the membership.
Linking Discord is how your membership unlocks the server. Unlink it and the member role goes away; link again and it comes back.
You must be at least 13 to join, and if you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission. Some tools we use set their own higher minimums.
Uploads
Files are capped at 250 MB each. We may set fair limits on storage and bandwidth; if you're heading past what's reasonable, we'll talk to you before doing anything.
07Our side of it
The site, the Deck, the club's name, logo, layouts, and writing belong to MCSC. Don't copy the club and run it somewhere else. Magic City Hippies recordings — released or unreleased — remain the band's property, and members get to listen inside the club and nothing more.
We do our best to keep the room up, but we don't promise perfect uptime, and we may change or retire features. If we make a significant change to what membership includes, we'll tell members by email.
Keep your own copies
We back things up, but the Deck is not your archive. Keep your own master files somewhere safe. If our copy of your audio ever disappears, we're not liable for losing the only copy of your song.
08Ending the membership
You can cancel any time, for any reason, with no explanation and no exit call.
We can end a membership if you break these terms, if your payment fails and stays failed, or if the club shuts down. If we end the club entirely, we'll give members notice and refund any unused portion of the month you've paid for.
If your membership ends, your uploads stay stored for 60 days in case you come back, and then we delete them. Ask us and we'll delete them sooner.
09The unavoidable legal bits
As-is. The club is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that membership will get you a cut, a collaborator, or a hit.
Limit of liability. To the extent the law allows, MCSC and the hosts aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages, and total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it arose.
Disputes. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and disputes go to the state and federal courts located in San Diego County, California. If some part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Third parties. Discord, Whop, and the other tools we use have their own terms, and using them means agreeing to theirs too.
Changes. We may update these terms. If a change is material, we'll email members at least 14 days before it takes effect. Staying a member after that means you accept the new version.
